A Working Ranch for Troubled Youth

A Working Ranch for Troubled Youth

Sometimes, it seems like today’s teens don’t understand the value of hard work. If your teenager lacks motivation and can’t stay out of trouble, Diamond Ranch Academy’s working ranch for troubled youth can help.

Our beautiful campus, covering 55 acres in Hurricane, Utah, gives teens a chance to develop a work ethic, learn valuable vocational skills, and take advantage of innovative therapeutic programs, like equine therapy. Unlike other ranches for troubled youth, we offer accredited academics and a wide range of extracurricular activities.

Our boarding school is staffed by licensed therapists and dedicated teachers along with carefully trained, handpicked youth supervisors. Your teen can gain a new sense of responsibility and perseverance while your family finds peace and reconciliation.

Our Ranch: Real Work, Beautiful Surroundings

At Diamond Ranch Academy, students work hard if they want to earn privileges and gain staffers’ trust. They’re closely supervised and given tasks they can master, but they’re expected to work hard and support the team.

Our ranch provides a range of agriculture-related activities, including a thriving 4-H Club. In addition, our equine therapy program gives students the chance to care for Diamond Ranch’s horses while learning valuable relationship skills.

What Is Equine Therapy?

Students at Diamond Ranch Academy receive individual therapy sessions as well as group therapy. Our equine therapy program, staffed by credentialed professionals, is an integral part of our ranch for troubled youth.

  • Equine therapy is offered to individuals, groups, and families.
  • Students develop bonds with the horses as they feed, groom, and care for the animals.
  • Although many students resist traditional therapy and support groups, most don’t realize that equine therapy is actually therapy.
  • As students learn to care for horses and anticipate their needs, they translate those skills into their person-to-person relationships.

Diamond Ranch Academy’s equine therapists are trained in psychotherapy in addition to receiving specialized training in equine therapy. They help students experience mindfulness and calm as they spend time with horses, increasing their sense of calm, well-being, and connection to the animals.

The Therapeutic Power of Nature

People often venture into natural surroundings to find peace and quiet contemplation. Rugged mountains and an expansive landscape surround Diamond Ranch Academy’s six buildings and state-of-the-art athletic facilities.

Many parents resist the idea of sending their teens to a ranch for troubled youth because they feel guilty for sending them away. Yet when students experience the healing power of nature, away from their normal environments, they think more clearly about their challenges.

At our ranch for troubled teens, away from everyday conflicts and familiar surroundings, students find freedom, perspective, and purpose. It’s a difficult decision, but sometimes, teens and their families need separate spaces to heal and rebuild.

Activities for Everyone

In addition to spending time on our ranch for troubled youth, Diamond Ranch Academy students enjoy a wide range of extracurricular activities. They have the chance to try new experiences, discover new talents, develop strong relationships with role models, and demonstrate excellence doing something they love.

Diamond Ranch Academy offers multiple athletic opportunities for girls and boys. By participating in sports, your teen will learn to how to thrive in a team environment, which instills within them a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Fine Arts

Students who enjoy pottery, painting, music, and other fine arts will find plenty of inspiration at Diamond Ranch Academy. Our students often enter their work in local festivals and competitions, and many earn arts-related scholarships to colleges and universities.

Performing Arts

Students who love acting and musical performance receive training from experienced artists. Our Rattlin’ D Playhouse is staffed by experienced actors, musicians, and composers dedicated to providing creative outlets for troubled teens.

Academic Achievement

Diamond Ranch Academy is licensed by the State of Utah and accredited by AdvancED and the Northwest Accreditation Commission. Accreditation means our high school credit courses transfer anywhere in the country, and our high school diplomas are accepted at universities both in the U.S. and abroad.
