Experience

Case Manager/Therapist – Northstar Treatment Center
Culinary Assistant – Diamond Ranch Academy

Interests

My family holds the most interest and attention for me.  I have a wonderful wife, a 3 1/2-year-old son, and a beautiful 2 1/2-year-old daughter who is my world.  I truly enjoy helping others smile, be it from a good joke, doing or saying something kind, or just being a listening ear.  When I have a moment to myself, I do enjoy anything that has an intriguing story: novels, movies, shows, video games, etc.  I have quite the nerdy side so if anyone brings up anything Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, or Dungeons and Dragons, we’ll be fast friends.

Comments on DRA

The experiences I had at Diamond Ranch Academy were the motivation that I needed to continue my education in Social Work.  Being able to start out in the kitchen and work with the students and develop relationships with them was so rewarding, it pushed me to see what more I could do as a therapist.  DRA gives everyone the opportunity and capacity to learn and grow and strive to become their best selves, both students AND staff alike.  I am excited and honored to be a part of an organization and environment that serves that purpose.

Comments on DRA

Diamond Ranch Academy is a program that teaches youth the skills necessary to be successful in all areas of their lives. I am impressed with the unique and insightful way Diamond Ranch approaches the issues our students are dealing with. I have had experience with youth facilities, and in my opinion, the approach that Diamond Ranch brings is uniquely effective and has an approach that has proven highly effective with the students and their families. They have great respect for the students here and truly care about them. The process takes time, but the relationships that are strengthened and remade are worth the wait.

Interests

I really love anything outdoors, mainly hiking and kayaking, but don’t mind staying inside for a good book or movie. I love getting to explore new places and I’ve had the opportunity to travel a bit even living in Australia for 6 months.

Comments on DRA

I began working at DRA a few years ago as a youth mentor and the experience was life changing. Getting to work in the wonderful environment that is DRA where everyone is supportive and wants the best for the kids and the guided me into what I’m doing today. Building relationships with the kids and other members of the DRA team was the driving force behind me going back to school to become a therapist and getting to play a bigger role in the growth we get to see in our students.

When I am not busy chasing my passion for helping teenagers, I am busy chasing my four children 6 and under! We are originally from northern Utah but have lived in a lot of places including North Dakota and Virginia. Our family loves anything outdoors so St. George is a big hit so far for us. Our favorite activities together include backpacking, fishing, hiking, camping, and playing at the park. On the rare occasion I get a free minute alone I like to read and attempt to do crafts. I love dance and the performing arts and did my minor in dance in college.

Comments on DRA

My first time on campus I knew this is the place I wanted to be and where I would choose for my child if they were struggling. Every staff face had a welcoming smile and couldn’t talk enough about their love for the job and the passion they had for helping the youth. The amount of opportunities given to the youth to grow and get help while still being teens with a “normal” life is amazing. The therapeutic environment, the hard-working passionate staff at all levels, and beautiful well-equipped facilities really stand out compared to other places I have had experience with.

INTERESTS

While walking through the favelas (ghettos) of Sao Paulo, Brazil, I encountered individuals that taught me the art of being happy, no matter the circumstances. Since that experience I have had a desire learn that lesson. Since then I have worked in the field of helping others, and pursued strengths-based work to help individuals achieve their potential. My wife and I moved our family to Southern Utah from Wyoming to get away from the cold, and who wouldn’t want to play in all the sunshine here? Our 3 young boys love being able to play outdoors any time of the year, and I love finding new adventures to go on. I am excited to embark on a new journey with Diamond Ranch Academy!

Interests

I was born and raised in Southern California but have spent time in various parts of the country such as Nebraska, Colorado, Arizona, and now Southern Utah. I have live here for 11 years and although the summers are hot I enjoy watching the seasons change. I have 1 daughter who is now 18 and learning that age does not make someone an adult. I raised her as a single parent and have learned a lot of life lessons the hard way. Family connection is something that I hold dear to my heart. Besides my love for animals, I have a deep passion for people and helping those who cannot or do not know how to help themselves. I love that I have the opportunity to be that safe place and voice of reason for those in need.

Comments on DRA

I truly feel blessed to have this wonderful opportunity to work with such amazing people who all share the same passion. Diamond Ranch Academy has a phenomenal program that gets results. Walking around the campus it is evident that those who work here love what they do, the interactions with the students and with each other are genuine. There are firm boundaries where there needs to be, yet there is also compassion and empathy. This is truly a place for positive growth and healing. I look forward to spending many great years here.

Clinical and research interests have been on working with adolescents and their families. I have worked with adolescents struggling with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, sexual addiction, autism, attachment, and parent/child relationship problems. Genuinely enjoys working with teens and is a firm believer that the adolescent years are some of the most essential years to develop and maintain healthy habits that will lead teens to be successful and happy adults. My wife and I live in St. George, UT. and are the happy parents of three rambunctious children.
