Speech & Debate

In speech and debate club, students are taught principles of appropriate and respectful argument. They debate current events and political party platforms, analyze issues and learn how to respect the opinions of their opponents. They also have opportunities to perform dramatic readings and impromptu speeches. This gives students an opportunity to build self-esteem in front of an audience.Often, troubled youth get into arguments a lot because they simply don’t know how to express themselves properly. They may also struggle with self-confidence and try to combat that by being more argumentative. Speech and debate club helps resolve these issues in our students and gives them a platform to develop tact and the ability to articulate well. Passion is encouraged!
