Performing Arts

America’s leading teen therapeutic boarding school since 1999.

“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms,
the most immediate way in which a human being can share
with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.”

– Oscar Wilde

The Department of Performing Arts at Diamond Ranch Academy offers our students an opportunity to develop their skills in an encouraging and disciplined way. We prepare students with the needed techniques, confidence, and skill that will let them make meaningful contributions to the performing arts throughout their lives.

Students have the opportunity to:
  • Learn alongside actors of a professional theatre troupe. They observe firsthand all aspects of staging a professional production.
  • Prepare and perform in two musical stage productions presented annually.
  • Compete alongside students in the State 1A Drama, Speech, and Debate tournaments.
  • Participate in both individual and group voice lessons.
  • Attend and participate in the nationally renowned Shakespeare Competition at Southern Utah University.

Speech and Debate

In Speech and Debate, students are taught appropriate and respectful arguments. They debate current events, and political party platforms, analyze issues, and learn how to respect the opinions of their opponents.

Vocal Instruction

Students interested in singing can take individual and group voice lessons. Students select, learn and perform musical pieces to perform for their peers and present those pieces in regional and state competitions. Students perform routinely at graduations, sporting events, and semi-annual recitals.

Shakespeare

Students study specific works of Shakespeare, perform them for peers, and present them in regional and state competitions. Students understand the importance of diction, vocal projection, and proper pronunciation through studying and performing these classic pieces.

Play Production

Students have the opportunity to learn the process of producing a stage production. They learn proper techniques in auditioning, rehearsing, and performing a live staged production. Students gain confidence in their acting skills and learn to work as a team with other students in ensemble pieces.
