Home Visits

A student is given home visit privileges when they obtain the Director Level and again when they achieve the Graduate Level. These are the final two levels prior to graduating from the program. Home visits allow students at these levels to demonstrate all the knowledge and skills they have learned in the program in their homes and communities. Students discover the realities of how life will be when they complete the program and have an opportunity to process the pressures, temptations, and challenges faced during each visit. After the visit the therapist works closely with the student to strengthen areas of weakness or fear and to assure that the student is adequately prepared to face their new life with confidence and to maintain the highest level of appropriate, productive behavior.

As well as an opportunity to build family relationships, students use the home visit to create a network of resources that increases the likelihood of success when they return home permanently. School counselors are contacted, support groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous and others are located, possible employment is explored, and other arrangements made that will be incorporated in the student’s Relapse Prevention Plan.
